Tis The Season!!

It’s that time of the year again!! Time for the insane rushed last minute shopping, deadlines at work, year end and any number of other stressful situations that will have you pulling your hair out and running around like a crazy person.

But this year, let’s do it differently, or at least try to limit the things that make us feel like we are falling of the edge of the world with no safety rope attached.

I am way behind where I usually am for getting everything ready for Christmas day… but I am not going to stress about it. I have had a couple of really stressful months and I have found myself sick. Physically. I have now taken that situation in hand and I am on the road to getting better again, and hopefully staying that way.

I have vowed not to worry. Worry gets you nowhere and changes nothing. It makes you sick and unhappy.

“One of the worst features about worrying is that it destroys our ability to concentrate. When we worry, our minds jump here and there and everywhere, and we lose all power of decision. However, when we force ourselves to face the worst and accept it mentally, we then eliminate all those vague imaginings and put ourselves in a position in which we are able to concentrate on our problem.”  – Dale Carnegie

I find every single time…that this is truth. We worry about money, time, deadlines and how we are going to fit everything into a day. When in the end, the worrying is slowing us down, making us function badly or not at all. When we worry, we procrastinate as well, it’s a mad horrible circle of unhealthiness.

What we should be doing…is just the best we can. Know that you have limitations. Know that you are not going to be able to live up to the hype of being perfect, and really why should you even be worrying about being perfect? Not one person I have ever met is. And that is awesome. That un-perfectness, the little glitch we all have, is what makes us beautiful and interesting and US.

So this holiday season, let’s take the worrying and the stress out of it. Let’s enjoy the season for what it is supposed to be, time to love yourself, love your family, to laugh and eat too much and have a really great couple of weeks celebrating the fabulous year that  has just passed and embracing the hope of the upcoming New Year.

Make December a month to look at things like a child, see the beauty in the little things, grab enjoyment wherever you can. Look after yourself…and love your family.
