Thinking positive…

The last few months in the place that I work, has been overly stressful.

My job is seasonal, so our window for success is fairly small. Luckily, we are awesome and we rocked it.

But there is always stress, way too much to do, in too short of time and usually not nearly enough bodies to get the job done easily.

I have learned over the years that there are a few tricks to what works for me keeping the stress at arms length…

I run. This is new to me this year, but I can honestly say that nothing else relieves my stress as well as lacing up and hitting the trail. Many people swear by running in the morning, but I love the release I get from running after a hard day at work. I sleep better too.

Another stress saver is that I don’t enter the drama. We all have drama at work. I work with mostly women, thankfully they are all mostly amazing, so our drama level is low, but it still exists. I have learned to deal with problems head on and say it like it is. If there are temper tantrums or negative vibes or conversation, I choose to walk away. I can’t tell you how many times that has turned things around. People can’t continue to be negative if you just won’t play into it.

Eat an amazing lunch. I love looking forward to having a great meal in the middle of a crazy day. I sit down, eat my huge salad and read my book for half an hour. No phone, no internet, no socializing. I like my lunches peaceful, it helps me to regroup and get ready to go back out into the insanity fully charged and grounded.

Cut back on the coffee. It’s easy to get carried away and drink a pot of coffee, but come 1:30 you are gonna crash. Your body just doesn’t function with tons of caffeine. And it makes your patience and brain function decrease tremendously. Trust me on that one.

Leave your social life or home troubles at home. This is always easier said that done, we have all done it at some point. But try to use your job as an escape from the other stuff going on in your life. Everything works out. Always. Have faith that it is always the case, no matter how crappy things are going.

Love your job!! This is an easy one right? If you don’t love your job, if you feel dread going to work in the morning…maybe it’s time to change things up. Figure out what makes you happy, what you are good at, what motivates you to be the best you that you can be, and do that. It’s really that easy. Life is too short to spend a huge amount of your time at a job that doesn’t make you happy.

Treat yourself…we all pass this one by because we are too busy, have too much to do or can’t afford it. Make time, don’t worry about cleaning your house (the dirt will certainly be there tomorrow), and save $20 a week that you would probably otherwise waste anyway, and treat yourself to something that makes you feel great!!
