How To Enjoy Your Massage…

I don’t know how many times I have looked forward to having a massage and then wasted it away once I was in the moment…

It’s a bit of an art to enjoy any type of massage, you have to learn to tune the world out for an hour (if you are lucky enough to have an hour long languishing massage, which I just want to add right now, doesn’t happen nearly enough in my crazy life).

It is really easy for your mind to wander where it may, like how much laundry you have piled up on the floor of your bedroom, or what you are going to make the screaming masses for dinner. You have to learn to come on back from that. It’s normal for our minds to wander. We have so much going on all of the time, that sometimes even getting a moment alone inside your own head seems about as likely as going to Mexico on a whim.

But you can indeed do it. You just need a little bit of focus and maybe a wee reminder note to self that you are worth it. You deserve this.

Think mindfulness, or really easy mediation, a chair massage is basically the same thing. It doesn’t always come easy at first, but with a little bit of practice you will start to notice it gets easier and easier to just be in your body and enjoy the moment. Relax and enjoy all the beautiful feelings that our massage will bring to your tired and overworked self.

Another thing I would like to share is not to go to a massage hungry, or full. I know, it’s hard to relax right? I find if I eat a couple of hours before, it works out perfectly. There is nothing worse than heading in for an 11 am massage and all you can hear and think about is how loud your stomach is growling… And make sure you are hydrated before the massage and after.

Water is my number one health kick right now, I have just learned (at 50 years old) how fabulous you feel when you stay hydrated. It really changes everything.

Making sure you have lots of time scheduled around your massage is also a key element to the enjoyment you will get…don’t hurry to get there, or have somewhere to rush to immediately after your appointment. This is meant to relax you…don’t feel guilty about scheduling that in, you totally deserve it!

It’s all about you for the time you are scheduled, whether it’s 15 minutes or an hour. Relax, breathe and enjoy the break in your hectic life.
